6933 Franklin Avenue, Hollywood
Rosina Kroner Apartment

According to most sources, Charles Manson shot Bernard "Lotsapoppa" Crowe at Rosina Kroner's apartment.  This shooting has long been used to illustrate that Manson was capable and willing to murder with his own hands.

Sources vary, but it would seem Rosina Kronner's apartment was most likely at 6933 Franklin Avenue.  Some sources have given the address as 6993 or 5933.  Tex Watson's book describes it as having a view of The Magic Castle, next door.  The address for The Magic Castle is 7001.

Tex described Rosina's apartment in the following passage:

"She had an old Hollywood-Spanish apartment with eucalyptus trees all around and a patio that overlooked the driveway to an exclusive private club for professional magicians and entertainment stars. Sometimes we'd sunbathe on the deck, drinking beer and smoking grass while we watched all the big limousines drive up for parties/dumping out beautiful people whom we could never quite recognize."

Ed Sanders book (first edition) states:

"In March of 1969 Tex Watson met a beautiful girl named Rosina who lived at 6933 Franklin Avenue in Hollywood, right next to the Magic Castle. (The Magic Castle is reputed to be the home of the Count Dracula Society, a society of well-known film-men and writers who groove behind old vampire movies.)

Tex spent a lot of time at the house on Franklin and occasionally Manson and some of the girls would also visit. A lovely member of the ill-fated Acapulco, Mexico production of the musical, Hair, was a roommate of Rosina."

Sanders goes on to describe Manson going to Rosina's apartment and shooting Bernard Crowe.  This time, he gives the address as 5933, although the earlier passage stated it as 6933.

The Franklin Garden Apartments were once located at 6915 through 6933 Franklin Avenue.  Unfortunately, as with several other Manson-related sites, they were demolished July 1, 1978.  Below is a photo of the apartments.  Notice that The Magic Castle is also visible in the background (upper left corner of photo).  So, it would seem clear that the correct address for the Crowe shooting was the Franklin Garden Apartments at 6933 Franklin Avenue.

Click here for Google's aerial photo of how the area appears today.  The symbol is the approximate location of the apartments.  Notice it is now a parking lot.  Just to the left of the lot, you can see The Magic Castle.  The shooting was apparently in the area that is at the left end of the lot.  In the aerial photo, it appears there is some sort of structure located around that spot, today.  Note it is adjacent to the driveway Tex mentioned in the previous quote.  To the right of the parking lot is a street intersection and then another building.  That building is where Manson operated 3-Star Enterprises in 1959.

Trivia note:  At the bottom of the Google aerial photo is Grauman's Chinese Theatre at 6925 Hollywood Boulevard.
