2007 Updates and News

The following were updates and news items during 2007.

DECEMBER UPDATES:  I've been working on a 3D computer model of the Cielo Drive house for quite some time.  It's difficult to get everything perfect since no dimensioned drawings are available and there seem to be no photos of some areas.  I hope to eventually release something in a more complete form, but click here to get a preview!  You'll need Java enabled to view the renderings.  Plus, you'll likely have to click each one a couple of times to "take control."  Once it's loaded, you'll be able to spin around a full 360 degrees at four pre-set locations.  If you see a red target, click it and you'll be taken to that spot.  If you like it, let me know.

DECEMBER NEWS:  Sara Jane Moore has been released from prison after winning parole.  In 1975, Moore attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford just seventeen days after a similar attempt by Manson Family member Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme.  Meanwhile, Fromme remains serving a life sentence in a federal facility in Texas.  Fromme and Moore both escaped from the women's prison in Alderson, West Virginia.  Moore did so for a few hours in 1979 while Fromme was a bit more successful in 1987.  It has been claimed that Moore and Manson were friends as children in the Charleston, WV area.  Moore is nearly five years older than Manson so the bigger claim of them being childhood sweethearts seems doubtful.  Another assassin, Arthur Bremer, was released on parole in November while John Hinckley has received multi-day visits to his parent's home.

The Discovery Times Channel (now known as Investigation Discovery) will broadcast a new "Most Evil" on Thursday, January 31 at 10:00pm.  This episode is different than what was recently broadcast and consists of a full hour on Charles Manson.  I helped quite a bit with this episode.  I previously mentioned some very interesting filming back in February but I've been told this will not be used at this time.  I hope to say more about this very soon, though!

Pat Krenwinkel has a parole hearing scheduled for January.  If you want to write a letter to the parole board, click here.

This is some old news that I just recently heard and confirmed.  Michael Monfort died on July 3, 2005.  Monfort is best known for his involvement in the Willett murders.  He was also married to Nancy Pitman (aka Brenda McCann).  Thanks to Mari for the tip.

OCTOBER NEWS:  I'd like to apologize for the slow updates this year.  The previously mentioned Discovery Channel show has been completed.  In addition to the previously mentioned interviews with Catherine Share and Vincent Bugliosi, it will also feature Barbara Hoyt.  No air date has been set.

The Discovery Times Channel aired "Most Evil" today (October 25).  This episode is "Cult Leaders" and covers Manson along with others.  I would like to thank the producers for the mention in the closing credits.  Their website shows this particular episode re-airing on November 29 at 6:00 am (east coast).  If runs about 43 minutes (60 with commercials).  The Manson section is about half-way through and consists of about 14 minutes (not counting commercials).  It features a great interview with Catherine "Gypsy" Share and is definitely worth watching.

Another episode of "Most Evil" is "Cult Followers" but I'm not sure if it will cover the Family or not.  If so, look for it on November 18, 19 and 21.  I was told the "Most Evil" series would consist of 20 episodes "in which a forensic psychiatrist uses the latest neuroscience and social psychology to re-examine modern crime stories."  It's based on the work of Dr. Michael Stone of Columbia University.  Note that Discovery Times is a separate channel from Discovery Channel.

AUGUST NEWS:  Leslie Van Houten was denied parole.  She was given a two-year denial.

The latest rumor is that Robert Hendrickson's long-awaited "The Manson Movie" will premier at the New York Film Festival (in Los Angeles) on September 28.  Check Robert's website for a very nice preview clip.

JULY NEWS:  Ines (Inez) Mejia Folger (mother of Abigail Folger) passed away on July 15, 2007, three weeks after her 100th birthday.  Click here for the San Francisco Chronicle obituary.  The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Abigail Folger Library Fund, Santa Catalina School, 1500 Mark Thomas Drive, Monterey, CA 93940.  Thanks to Stephen Turner for the notification.

The Sci-Fi channel will broadcast an episode of "Ghost Hunters" on Wednesday, July 18.  The episode is titled "Manson Murders" and a short video preview is available on their website.  Thanks to Thom, Ronnie B and Vonda for the tip!

Check the Manson Music blog to download his music.

MAY NEWS:  I spoke with Manson again on May 22 and he again said he was not going to attend his parole hearing.  He actually said he thought it had already passed.  Today, May 23, he skipped the hearing and was denied for five more years.

I spoke with Manson by telephone on the evening of May 21.  I asked if he was going to attend his parole hearing this year and he replied that he was not.  He seemed positive that he wouldn't.  I guess we'll know for sure very soon.

APRIL NEWS:  Charles Manson will have a parole hearing on May 23.  He hasn't appeared at one for a while and he's 72 years old this time.  If he gets his usual 5-year denial then he'll be 77 before another hearing rolls around.  I'd guess he'll appear at this one.  If you want to write a letter to the parole board, click here.

FEBRUARY NEWS:  I've been helping The Discovery Channel with a new show on Charles Manson.  Catherine "Gypsy" Share will be interviewed and I believe Vincent Bugliosi already has been.  Also look for Emmett Harder, who should prove to be very interesting.  I can't reveal details, but some very interesting filming took place this past weekend...

The director of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is working on a new movie based on the Manson story.  It sounds like it won't be taking the "Helter Skelter" legal-type point of view.  Read about it on Fangoria.

FEBRUARY UPDATES:  I've added photos of the shop where Abigail Folger purchased a bicycle on her last day along with the house she and Wojciech Frykowski lived in on Woodstock Road.

Thanks to Ronnie and Jamie B. for some new photos of the Inyo County Court House in Independence, California.

JANUARY NEWS:  Denny Doherty (of The Mamas and the Papas) passed away at age 66.  Denny has stated in the past that he nearly went to Sharon Tate's house on the night of the murders.  Read about it here.

Former prosecutor Stephen Kay has come out of retirement, but in a smaller-than-before capacity.  He is now Redondo Beach's city prosecutor for misdemeanors.  His son died unexpectedly of a heart attack and Mr. Kay chose to return to work to keep his mind occupied.  Read about it here.
